PBK Day – Mu Chapter’s 50th Anniversary Celebration

The UCI PBK Mu Chapter will officially hit 50 years this June 13th, 2024! Founded in 1974, the Mu Chapter has strived to recognize and induct the top 1% of juniors and 5% of seniors while elevating the academic excellence of UCI through participation in the Visiting Scholar Program and hosting the annual PBK Fall Book Award Ceremony. In celebration of Mu Chapter’s 50th anniversary, June 13th has been deemed PBK Day, with a host of wonderful events planned for the evening!
1:00-1:15 pm | PBK Bridge Dedication Ceremony
Join Vice Provost and Honorary PBK member Michael Dennin in the grand unveiling of the new PBK Bridge, complete with the PBK motto “Love of Learning is the Guide of Life” inscribed on both sides with bronze lettering and PBK keys on either side. Vice Provost Dennin will give a keynote then cut the ceremonial ribbon, officiating the PBK Bridge! This event is open to all PBK members, use the RSVP button below to register!

Join us at this year’s induction ceremony and watch PBK inductees walk down the aiels to become fully-fledged PBK members. Provost and PBK member Hal Stern will give the keynote address along with messages from current UCI PBK President Susan King and UCI PBK Historian Virginia Trimble. Then, enjoy a post-ceremony reception and mingle with new and old PBK members!

To celebrate UCI PBK’s 50th anniversary, we are hosting a PBK Alumni Dinner! Hear from and meet Michael Hingson a public speaker, 9/11 survivor, and honorary PBK member as he gives the keynote. Enjoy a wonderful dinner with colleagues and meet newly inducted PBK members after viewing the Alumni Dinner Video featuring Mu Chapter’s founding members and past-PBK presidents!

Mu Chapter founding members, past-PBK Executive Board presidents, & UCI PBK Alumni: Register to be interviewed for the special 50th anniversary video at the UCI Media Recording Studio (3000 Anteater Instruction & Research Building). The video will be played at the Alumni Dinner with Michael Hingson detailed above.
You will be interviewed about your story and connection to UCI PBK so that your stories can be included for posterity. We will provide you with the interview questions in advance so that you can come with prepared statements if you wish.

Founded in 1974, the UCI PBK – Mu Chapter of California has strived to increase the diversity and inclusion of students inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. Our mission is to recognize our high-achieving Anteaters and set them up to become leaders in their fields. To further this mission, UCI PBK covers the entire membership fee of inducted Anteaters who accept their nomination in the year they are invited.
